Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome back everyone!

One of the biggest Christian holidays – Easter. It is а spring holiday and it`s considered as the day of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.  It has become a tradition not only to give gifts on Easter, but also to do charity work, paying special attention to children and the elderly.  An invariable attribute of Easter is Easter bread - Paska, the history of which dates back to pagan times.  Among many nations there was a custom to bake Easter bread in the spring and bring it as a gift to the earth. This way our ancestors thanked the gods of fertility for the harvest.

Happy Easter!

A successful parent teacher remote conference was just held at the end of March.   The event enabled parents and guardians to personally discuss with teaching staff their children’s academic performance.

Please keep a close eye on these important dates:

  1. Early Dismissal 2:00 pm – Tuesday, April 6
  1. Easter Mass – Wednesday, April 7 (1:30 pm)

Once again, if I can be of any assistance to either students or parents, please do not hesitate to call me or drop by the school.

Respectfully,

Alexander Cap, B.Ed., M.Ed.
Principal, Holy Cross School

Dear Holy Cross School Grade 4-8 families,

Exciting things are about to happen! We are already in the process of hosting a Virtual Bison Regional Science Fair (BRSF) All Grade 4-8 students are invited to participate and showcase their scientific skills with other Catholic and Independent schools. I would like to invite you to work along with your child as he or she selects, investigates, and reports on an appropriate area of Science. With your interest and encouragement, your child can develop the skills and attitudes he or she needs to make this project a valuable experience.

Please encourage your child to do the most, if not all, of the work. Parents sometimes want to build an entire project, to make it “perfect”. It is more important that your child wrestle with problems and try to solve them, because learning is in the doing. Guide your child whenever and wherever you can, but let the final project reflect your child’s individual effort and design. Remember your child’s success in our science fair will not be measured by ribbons, trophies, or certificates. Your child will succeed by learning and understanding more about Science and how scientists’ work. Awards are secondary. The real goal of the Science fair is stimulating your child’s curiosity about the world.

BRSF provides an excellent opportunity for enthusiastic young scientists who are curious and eager, to learn about the possibilities of science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) and to investigate topics of personal interest. In addition, they are provided professional level feedback and recognition for their efforts. Our Bison Regional Science Fair is affiliated with Youth Science Canada. Top winners from grade 7 and 8 of Bison Regional Science Fair will be participating in the Virtual Canada Wide Science fair from May 17-21.

Students have  already received Bison Regional Science Fair information directly from their homeroom teachers before the spring holidays. It is still not too late to participate, should you need more information, please follow the link https://youthscience.ca/bison/ for an updated information. Deadline is April 12th and BRSF dates are April 16-18th. Awards Ceremony will be on April 18th in the afternoon.

I look forward to your participation in our upcoming Bison Regional Science Fair. Please call or email me with your questions and suggestions. Let’s work together so that our Science fair will be a memorable and pleasant experience for your child.

Sincerely,
Dr. A. Bajaj
