PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
September 2017
 
Dear Holy Cross School Students and Parents!

Warm greetings and welcome back to another exciting 2017-2018 school year. This year we had a very unusual summer (heat waves after heat waves). The summer school break was an excellent opportunity to relax, enjoy the sunshine and interact with family and friends. 
 
The staff and I look forward to working with all families and students and wish everyone success this academic year.  All of us at Holy Cross will closely work with you to ensure that your child’s journey is academically challenging, positive and safe and because we believe that your child is " the next generation of young Christian Leaders".
 
This year at Holy Cross School, two new teachers have joined our academic institution. A warm welcome to Ms. Margaret Klosowicz (French) and to Ms. Rodelyn Aaron (Grade 2(A).
 
A special thank you to all of our school partners, parents, volunteers, students and staff for your cooperation, dedication to help reach Holy Cross Schools ideals. The staff and I look forward to working with all new families and students and wish everyone success this academic year.

BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM HOURS


Before 7:00 AM No supervision provided.
7:00 AM – 8:20 AM Before School program hours. Unless students are enrolled in the Before School program, they should arrive at the school no earlier than 8:00 AM.
8:00 AM – 8:20 AM School open to receive pupils. Supervision provided.
8:20 AM – 3:00 PM Regular school hours. Supervision provided.
3:00 PM – 3:30 PM School open for pickup of pupils. Supervision provided.
3:00 PM – 5:30 PM After School program hours. Unless students are enrolled in the After School program, they should be picked up no later than 3:30 PM.
ALL ARE INVITED TO ATTEND OUR WELCOME BACK BBQ ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH!

SCHOOL UNIFORMS
 
Students must be in the proper school uniform. This includes Gr. 3-8 gym clothing as well.  Students that are not in proper uniform will have a note sent home.  The second time the student will have to call home for replacement clothing.  Remember all clothing must be purchased through Top Marks. 
     
Uniforms may be ordered online at www.topmarks.ca.  School code is HOL01.

PLEASE LABEL ALL ARTICLES OF CLOTHING with your child's name.  New students should all have uniforms by the last week of September!
 
 
Your tuition payment for September can be made in the office at your convenience.  Please note that we accept payments of Cash, Interac, Visa, or MasterCard.
 
**Should you have any outstanding fees for the 2016-2017 school year, please bring your account up to date**

CHARLEE’S LUNCH PROGRAM

Holy Cross School is pleased to welcome CHARLEE’S!  Charlee’s Restaurant is a highly rated restaurant located in Winnipeg, which also provides catering for school lunches.  Our students will have the option of ordering a nutritious, healthy, hot lunch on a daily basis. 

ORDERING BASICS:
  • The Lunch menu runs on a 2 week rotation commencing on September 11th, 2017.  Every 2 weeks the menu will change.
  • Order forms can be printed from our website at www.holycrossschool.mb.ca
  • The order form is to be filled out for the 2 week period indicated on the form. 
  • There will be a choice of 2 entrées per day.   ALL ENTRÉES WILL BE A FLAT FEE OF $5.00.  There will also be a choice of healthy side options at an extra cost that will always be available.
  • All order forms are to be submitted 1 week prior to the 2 week period they are ordering for.  Ex:  If you are ordering lunch for the 2 week period of September 25 - October 6th, your order form has to be submitted to the office by Friday, September 15th.  This is to accommodate preparation time.  Please check the Holy Cross School calendar on our website for each cut-off period if you are unsure.
  • If an order is handed in after the cut-off date, or your child needs to order a hot lunch the same day, a $1.00 surcharge will be applied.  Ex:  Your entrée will cost $6.00 as opposed to $5.00.
  • Payments may be made by cheque or cash.  Cheques are to be made out to Charlee’s Restaurant.  All cash orders must be submitted utilizing exact change. 
  • Charlee’s does not offer any refunds or credits.  If your child has ordered food and does not come to school on that day, the meal will be wrapped up and placed in the fridge for your child to eat or take home upon his/her return to school.
  • If your child has any allergies, please take it into consideration prior to ordering.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding food ingredients, please contact Charlee’s Restaurant at (204) 663-6484.

PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS:  Holy Cross School offers guitar lessons as well as piano lessons at the school through the Academy of Music.  For more information or to register please contact the music director Shawn Coughlin at 204-786-1704 or email academymusic@shaw.ca.

 
Please call the school office by 9:00am if your child is going to be late or absent.  Also, please remind your son/daughter to sign in at the office if he/she is late.  If they do not sign in, a telephone call home may cause some concern for you.
INDUSTRIAL ARTS are held at Nelson McIntyre Collegiate on St. Mary's Road every Day 4 for Grade 7 students, and every Day 6 for Grade 8 students.
ATTENTION ALL VISITORS

ALL VISITORS, parents, delivery personnel, family members, etc. are reminded to enter the front entrance of the school only.  All visitors must sign in and get a visitor tag.  Parents will be encouraged to meet their children outside the double green doors.

SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS

School Board meetings are held in the staff room on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 7:00pm.  An invitation is extended to all parents to come out and participate at the meetings. New members are always welcome. The first meeting of the new school year is on September 19th.
