Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We are approaching the end of our school year and we still need to stay on task.   I’m pleased to inform you that we had for the third time at our institution the Bison Regional Science Fair. It was well attended and we had a number of schools and important guests take part in this event. Three finalists were selected to travel to Fredericton, New Brunswick for the Canada-Wide Science Fair, all expenses paid. We wish them lots of luck and an excellent opportunity to represent Manitoba Catholic Schools and make new friends.

Thank you Dr. Bajaj for the tremendous work that you do in science education at Holy Cross School.  A warm thank you goes also to everyone who helped out to ensure that this event was successful.

May 12th is Mothers Day therefore remember to thank your mom for all the time that she has dedicated to your healthy religious upbringing.

Happy Mothers Day!

As we continue to work together, I know we will be able to accomplish a great deal more at Holy Cross School.  If I can be of any assistance to either students or parents/guardians, please do not hesitate to see me or call me at your convenience.

Respectfully,
Alexander Cap, B.Ed., M.Ed.

TABS FOR WHEELCHAIRS
April 17, 2019

It’s hard to believe that it has already been a year since our 20th Anniversary!  Where does the time go? The wonderful news is that the Tabs for Wheelchairs program is getting bigger & better every year!

Besides the two wheelchairs we gave last year, which were our 19th and 20th wheelchairs, another seven wheelchairs have been given through the generous donation of $30,000 from a family member. In addition to this, an anonymous donor also gave money last year to purchase two sport wheelchairs which were given to the Manitoba Wheelchair Sport Association.

Our program has been so successful because of each and every one of you who has taken time to either pick up or take off that tiny little tab, which all alone, seems so miniscule!  But together, what a feat we have accomplished!!!

This year, we are presenting two specialized wheelchairs.  One to Scarlett from Brandon and to the Manitoba Wheelchair Sport Association.

For the year 2020, we have chosen two young boys to be our recipients.  They are Jasper who is five years old and will be attending Kindergarten in the fall at Riverview School in Brandon.  He was born with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). Our second recipient will be Isaac who is eight years old and is presently at Luxton School in Winnipeg.  He was born with spina bifida.  Pictures and more information are in the attachments.

In order to prepare for our presentation on Thursday, June 20th at 1:00 p.m. in the Holy Cross School Gymnasium, please take all of your tabs to Trailblazers Life Choices Inc. at 1069 Autumnwood Ave. in Windsor Park.  Trailblazers is in the little strip mall right behind the fire station on the corner of Autumnwood and Cottonwood. Deadline for drop off is Friday, June 7th. They are open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Also remember that Western Scrap, where we take all of our bags of tabs for recycling, will take cans or any kind of metal (small or large) and will credit our Tabs for Wheelchairs account.  Just remember to go to their main desk and mention it is for Tabs for Wheelchairs when dropping them off.  We get a substantial amount from people doing this every year and it really makes a difference to our program!

Hopefully, as in past years, we will have some TV coverage!  We will send an email around 5:00 p.m. on the day of presentation to let you know which channel(s) to watch.

In closing, we wish to thank you once again for being such dedicated and caring individuals and for helping us make Tabs for Wheelchairs what it is today!  Also remember, all are welcome at the presentation on June 20th and we look forward to seeing you!  If any groups from schools wish to come, please let us know. It is truly an inspiring day!

Sincerely,

Gwen Buccini
